Too many memories. Too many reminders.

My sincere condolences to the family of Hugh Fox. My name is Vuong Vu and I am the editor of Caesura magazine. Mr. Fox sent some poems to us, and he and I corresponded briefly over poetry and life. Our correspondence was lovely, such wit and wisdom from him. I was floored when I recently received news of his passing. I am now holding onto two poems he recently wrote and many notes on his life. I would like to know to whom I can return these. If anyone can help me with contact information for his family or someone to whom I can send his last poems, I will be grateful. My email is [email protected]. The amazing thing is that in his poems he mentions some of the same names I see here in this guestbook. To love and to be loved--such is the life of Hugh Fox.

My condolences to the whole family. Hugh was my cousin, and we were quite close when we were younger. We stayed in touch thru the years. He always kept ties with family. I will truly miss him. Tho we have not seen each other for quite some years, there were many Emails, phone calls, and cards that went back and forth between us. He was like the brother that I never had to me during our formative years. “Shalom” Hugh, I love you, Judy

Oh, I am so sad to hear this news - and too late to attend the memorial service. I have read all the entries here and these remembrances of this wonderfully vibrant human being help bring up some smiles. Hugh was so gregariously kind to me. Bumping into him always made for a better day. I didn't know he was sick, I didn't know I would never see him again around town. He enriched our lives. My thoughts are with you, Maria, and all of Hugh's family. Sending you much love.

Condolences to Hugh's family on his passing. My wife, Kathleen, and I considered Hugh a national treasure. We only knew him personally for a few years, but his writing, even before we met him, touched our lives. His book, "Gods of the Cataclysm," helped and inspired us in our search for the true origins of Western Hemisphere cultures. His later books fascinate as well, as does his poetry. He was a truly brilliant human being who was also very, very generous with praise and support for our writings. We deeply value the time we were able to spend with him. He will be very much missed!

I would like to extend my condolences to Hugh's family. Hugh was a gifted storyteller and a kind human being. He was always upbeat and cheerful, and even when he was dealing with cancer, he always wanted to know how MY day was going.
I published the last story Hugh ever wrote in the June 2011 issue of my magazine, The Horror Zine here:
http://www.thehorrorzine.com/Fiction/June2011/Hugh%20Fox/HughFox.html
For The Horror Zine, Hugh wrote unusual, dream-like stories that featured protagonists his own age. I have published him twice online, and once in a trade paperback anthology book.
Hugh was a great talent for both prose and poetry, but he was also a good friend. I feel the world is a bit less bright, and certainly less cheerful, without Hugh Fox.

I arrived at work today and went to see Dr. Horowitz .. just to ask him if he knew how Hugh was doing. I guess i must have already known the answer, i was about to hear. I had been thinking of Hugh and Maria (Dr. Costa-Fox) quite a bit since last week. I always enjoyed talking with Hugh and seeing them by chance here and there around town. Maria , I am sorry for your loss . Hugh will be missed... as i am certain you know. I wish you the best.
Sincerely,
Roger Young

Hugh has been a great friend and colleague to me for forty years and will be greatly missed. We worked together at MSU and published Ghostdance during the mimeo revolution of the 1970s. We shared many personal adventures and misadventures together. Although apart for long stretches of time, we have visited and kept in touch by phone and through the mails. Instantly, Hugh could pick up our conversation exactly where we left off although it might have been years since we spoke. I will always carry in mind his humor and spontaneous laughter, his indomitable spirit and creativity, and his loving nature and sensitivity to others. God bless you, Hugo, and keep your light bright so I can find you on the other side. May peace and loving memories fill the empty spaces for all his family and loved ones. Paul J. Hugh was urbane, witty, and cheerful. I met him when I published a poetry book of Brazilian poems. On his 79th birthday, he read from "Approaching" at Schuler's, February 12, 2010.
Hugh, as I understand, was in final stage cancer at that time. My condolences to the family he so lovingly shared with the world in his writings.

What a sad shock. He was a friend, a colleague, and a writer whose life and lifestyle shattered the mold of what we're supposed to expect. We were lucky to have him in our lives, fortunate to see him and talk with him at Wharton this past winter, and we'll miss that below-the-surface knowledge that he's always in our presence. Our love goes out to Maria, to his family, and to the artistic community of which he was an integral part. Etta Abrahams and Herbert Greenberg
