James Boswell Obituary

James W. Boswell, Ph.D. East Lansing James died August 7, 2009, at the age of 88. Born January 24, 1921, he was a graduate of Detroit Northwestern High School. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Force in England. James earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. For many years he lived in the Detroit area where he taught Business Administration at the Detroit College of Business. He was a board member of the Children's Aid Society of Detroit and Schoolcraft Community College. An avid golfer, James invented a variety of golf games and was a member of Radrick Farms Golf Course at U of M. He was a Detroit Tigers fan. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary and Virginia, and his brother, Donn. James is survived by his wife, Virginia whom he married in 1946; sister-in-law, Shirley Boswell; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Monday, August 31, 11:00 a.m., at All Saints Episcopal Church, 800 Abbot Road, East Lansing. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the Children's Aid Society of Detroit, 7375 Woodward Avenue, Suite 2700, Detroit, MI 48202 in memory of James. The family is being served by the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing.
