John "Jack" Dempsey

John "Jack" Dempsey Eaton Rapids John "Jack" Dempsey, age 77, formerly of Adrian, passed away at his home, Thursday, April 15, 2010. He was born in Adrian, MI, January 7, 1933, the son of Bernard and Helen (Keebler) Dempsey. Jack was a 1952 graduate of Adrian High School. He went on to attend Adrian College and earned a Bachelor's degree in science. He worked for General Motors Fisher Body and retired in 1995 after 19 years of service. Jack served his country during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Adrian. Jack is survived by his wife, Joan (Beels) Dempsey of Eaton Rapids; children, Jeanine Cowles of Dimondale, Jennifer (Allen) Kerby of Eaton Rapids, John W. Dempsey jr. of Eaton Rapids; 5 grandchildren, Joshua and Justin Cowles, Krista, Brandon and Austin Kerby; brother, Thomas Dempsey of Adrian; sister, Patricia (Robert) Ward of Adrian. He was preceded in death by his parents and son in law, Kevin Cowles. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. Eaton Rapids, MI 48827, with Father Alan Wakefield officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with a rosary at 3:30. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lansing, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of your choice, the Eaton Rapids Senior Center, 201 ½ Grand St. Eaton Rapids or the Food for the Poor Inc.
