Karen Denise Cherry Delta Twp. Karen Denise Cherry died on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at the age of 45 after a heroic battle with cancer. Surviving me are my father, Patrick Cherry of Lansing; step-mother, Susie Cherry of Lansing; brother, Steven (Hillary) Cherry of Hamtramck; sisters, Nicole Cherry of Grand Rapids, Michelle Cherry of Las Vegas, NV and Melanie Cherry of Lansing and my sweetest niece, Bella Trevino of Lansing. I was preceded in death by my mother, Mary Kay Cherry in 1977; grandparents, Angelo and Hildegarde Guerriero and Royal "Red" and Zelma Cherry. I graduated from Lansing Catholic High School in 1986. Next I attended Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, graduating in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I went to work for the Michigan Education Association in East Lansing and remained there for 23 years as a Research Technician. It was there I made many, many dear friends. I enjoyed cooking the occasional dinner for the guests of Loaves & Fishes Shelter for the homeless in Lansing. I volunteered for one hour a week at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Lansing. I cherished spending time with my niece, Bella, who is beautiful both inside and out. I will also miss the "Stress Reduction meetings" occasionally held at Reno's East with a group of my dear friends. Thank you to my doctors, Lisa Kimball, Julia Spalding, Lori Kron-Naughton and Louis Anstett and all the physicians, nursing staff and housekeeping staff at Sparrow Hospital. Without their care, the end of my journey would have been unbearable. My Resurrection Mass will be held on Friday, September 20, 2013, 10:30 AM at St Gerard Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Klein as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. My family will receive relatives and friends Thursday, September 19, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Delta Chapel where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church. The pallbearers are John Kazenko, Bill Bingham, Dan Cinco, Chris Bailey, Dan Enghoffer, Kevin Finn and Steven Cherry. Please do not send flowers. Instead I ask you to consider making a contribution to either, Loaves & Fishes, Sparrow Hospital or Ele's Place. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.palmerbush.com.
