Laura Johnson Obituary

Laura Mae Johnson Lansing Laura Johnson, 92, beloved wife of Keith Johnson of 62 years and loving mother of Henry "Butch" Johnson (LeNita); cherished grandmother of Loren, Stephen, David and Alex; dear friend to Ina Major; sister-in-law to Ruby Booker; fond aunt and respected surrogate parent to many, died April 19, 2010 in Lansing, Michigan. Laura served her church as a member of the Women's Guild, Sunday school teacher, and Women's Missionary Society. Laura retired from Oldsmobile in 1977 after 31 years of service. She lived through the troublesome 50's and 60's, was a proud member of the NAACP and her UAW Local 652. As a political activist during the turbulent civil rights era, she was happy learning that our nation elected an African American President and Leader of the free world. A Funeral Service will be held at Noon on Monday, April 26, 2010 at Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church, 3500 W. Holmes Road, Lansing, MI with visitation one hour prior at the church. Keith I don't know if you will remember us, Carol and Norman Eastman when we were your neighbors on Maybel St. We became good friend during this time and were very fond of you and Laura. Your son and our daughter were in the same grade at Wainwright. Laura was a great women to be a friend of. We want you to know we are thinking of you and and wish you well.

Keith, My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Don't know if you remember me but...you gave us your German Shepard--Jasper. When you brought Jasper over to us, you said that Laura said it was either "you or the dog" we laughed about that so many times as Laura told me the story of how she had planted all the flowers and Jasper came behind her and dug them up! How wonderful to have such fond memories. May God bless you during this difficult time.

Those of us who have known you all our lives - thank you for planting seeds of life’s lessons so we may grow. And though your earthly voice is silenced, I suspect you speak through the memories of those who love you. Our solace now comes from knowing that for people like you who lived in goodness, perseverance, patience, and 92 years of accumulated wisdom, death is not a fear, but a reward for a job well done.
