Lorena Kamminga Obituary

Lorena J. Kamminga East Lansing We thank God each day for the loving influence our Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma has had on our lives. We will miss her. Her love for the Lord shined through every aspect of her life as she touched the lives of those around her. Born October 14, 1916, Lorena June Kamminga died August 17, 2009 at the age of 92. Rene was a proud graduate of Michigan State University. She was also one of their biggest fans, wearing green and white on game days and yelling "Go Green" to anyone who would listen. She loved her church and was for 67 years a devoted member of River Terrace Church. After raising her family, Rene, along with her devoted husband, Si, began a 20 year commitment of service to the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee. They traveled around the world aiding in disaster relief, as well as refugee settlement. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Minnie Mills, husband Simon (1995), son-in-law Ed Meyering, 4 brothers and 5 sisters. She is survived by daughters Judith Meyering of Kalamazoo, and Donna (Gerald) Oade of East Lansing; son David (Marcia) Kamminga of Minnetonka, MN; grandchildren, Michelle Westenbroek(Tom), Wendy Niewiek (David), Jennifer Thalmayer (Matt), Caitlyn Kamminga-Chamberlain (Aidan), Matthew Kamminga, Hadley Kamminga-Peck, Stephen Oade, and David Oade (Andrea); 13 great-grandchildren, sister Marion Woolpert VanKuiken, sister-in-law, Kay Mills, brother-in-law Hilbert DeVries, and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the River Terrace Church, 1509 River Terrace Drive, East Lansing, with the Rev. Dr. Clayton Libolt officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, August 24, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.. at the River Terrace Church and 1 hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Reformed World Relief Committee/Disaster Response in care of River Terrace Church; Burcham Hills Retirement Center, 2700 Burcham Drive, East Lansing, MI 48823; or River Terrace Church, 1509 River Terrace Drive, East Lansing, MI, 48823. Donna, Judy and Dave,

I have great memories of your Mom. She never seemed to have a bad day. The world is diminished by her passing, but, there is one more Saint to watch over us.

As much as I will miss Aunt Rene, it is such a joy to be able to remember her vibrant personality and to look forward to seeing her & Uncle Si again!!

You all remain in my prayers... I'm sorry we are too far away to be there in person.

I am very sorry about the loss of your loved one, she was a very sweet lady and interesting to talk to, she used to come into the beauty shop where I worked and she was a pleasant person to talk to, a very very sweet lady!!!!

Aunt Rene was such a great example to so many. She showed how to keep living for God no matter what circumstance you are placed in. She always seemed to know who needed a greating from her or an extra hug.
We are sending our hugs and prayers to her children and grandchildren. Rick and Cyndee Viel
