Madeline Grinnell Obituary

Madeline B. Grinnell Madeline B. Grinnell, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Heartland Healthcare in Kalamazoo at the age of 89. A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Morrice, MI. Fr. John Bosco will officiate with burial to follow in Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Perry Chapel on Friday May 7, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Grinnell was born on May 19, 1920 in Bentley, Michigan, the daughter of John and Elnora (Clement) Shayler. She married Everett Grinnell in Morrice on April 30, 1938 and together they raised five children. Mrs. Grinnell is survived by her five children, Betty (Duane) Brown of Kalamazoo, Stephen and Jackie Grinnell of Lansing, Patricia Whitlock of San Diego, CA, Maxine (Greg) Brown of Houghton Lake, Diane (Mike) Stinnett of Dearborn; special daughter-in-law, Annette Grinnell of Baldwin; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, four brothers, one sister, and one grandchild, Beth. Madeline was a cook for the Morrice schools for over 21 years retiring in 1986. She was a past member of St. Mary's Altar Society and Morrice village treasurer. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, playing cards and traveling. Most of all Madeline loved being with and doing for her family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Southwest Michigan Hospice or Heartland Healthcare in Kalamazoo. My sincerest thoughts and prayers are with family. I have fond memories of my great aunt, especially when she would sneak me extra goodies from the kitchen in grade school. She will always be one of the nicest people I've ever known.
