Mrs. Black was my advanced education teacher at Cumberland Elementary School when I was in the 6th grade - about 1970. I have many fond memories of the mind-opening things we had a chance to do thanks to her. Sculpt and carve "plaster of paris" in an Alvar Aalto style that we mixed in milk cartons (it was as special as marble to me); learn how to play chess; listen to classical music which I had never done before and paint with acrylics. My folks still have the waterfall I painted in her class hanging in their house. I am now a landscape architect - maybe influenced by her interest in the outdoors and definitely influenced by the opportunity to try many new things. Best to her family.

My mom Marijane Dahlem Black will live for ever in all she gave of her love of knowledge & teaching about nature, a dedicated supporter of my Dad's life long pursuit of birding, with teamwork they achieved and shared a legacy of
world wide travels. for all who may find in their own backyard the reward
of birding...

Tom and Nancy...a tough time, saying good-by to Mom, but what a wonderful, long and fulfilling life she had. My best memories involve her boisterous cheering at Basketball games, when her voice could be clearly heard! We were lucky to have our moms for such a long time, but moving on without them is certainly different. Relishing memories is our comfort. My thoughts are with you.
