Mary Lietzke Obituary

Mary M. (Schanzlin) Lietzke Mary M. (Schanzlin) Lietzke was born on October 20, 1913 and died on April 28, 2008 at age 94 in Charlotte, NC. She started a professional career as a registered nurse after graduating from Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1934, married Loren C. Lietzke in 1937 having met him at DeWitt Methodist Church where her father was pastor, raised a family at 3880 West Cutler Road in Clinton Co, Michigan and helped run the farm until his death. Preceded in death by her husband and her brother and sisters, she is survived by her children, Richard of Edgewater, Maryland, David of Rutledge, Tennessee, Marilyn of Greer, South Carolina, Alan of El Sobrante, California and Stephen of Charlotte, North Carolina, plus daughters-in-law, several nieces and nephews, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Following the death of her husband, in 1966 she started a new career that included several years as Merrill Hall Head Resident Advisor at Central Michigan University. She also worked as a teacher's aide volunteer in the Intermediate School District in DeWitt, MI. She also served as Chairperson of the Advisory Board on Tri-County Aging Consortium (Ingham, Eaton & Clinton). She also traveled and took some of her grandchildren on trips. She eventually retired from traveling and volunteer work and took up residence in St. Johns and East Lansing, MI, Greer, SC and Charlotte, NC. Her body was donated to the medical school at Chapel Hill, NC, and the interment of her ashes will be next to her husband at Dewitt Cemetery on October 2, 2009.
