Milton Firestone

Milton Firestone Okemos Milton I. Firestone died October 1, 2010. Mr. Firestone served with distinction as a Michigan Assistant Attorney General for more than 32 years. As a division head, he oversaw many areas including Social Services, Health, Military Affairs, and Municipal Affairs and Finance. During his career, he appeared in 50 cases before the Michigan Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, and the 6th Circuit US Court of Appeals. He taught municipal finance law at the Thomas M. Cooley Law School and previously was Assistant City Attorney for Livonia, Michigan. Although he struggled with multiple sclerosis from age 60, he never let it define him. Each time his MS added a new complication, he rose to overcome it. He was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1927, the son of Edna (Strom) and Joseph Firestone. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII and earned his Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University. He was a board member of the Michigan Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and chairperson of its government relations group. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Renée Levy Firestone; son, Joseph (Liliana Ciccodicola) Firestone; daughter, Karen (Chuck) Rossen; and three granddaughters, Leah, Eliza, and Cici. He also leaves his friend and brother, Harold (Gloria) Firestone, along with loving nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence, and his sister, Edith Snider. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek, with Rabbi Amy Bigman officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
