O. Hiester Obituary

O. Wendell Hiester Lansing Born on January 17, 1920 in Bremen, IN, Wendell passed away August 15, 2010 at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jennie (Arnold) Hiester; sisters, Jane John, Llana Huff; brothers, Arthur, Dave, and Mahlon; and five half brothers and sisters. Surviving are his loving wife of 41 years, Hazel; 1 daughter, Carmen (David) Ryan of Great Falls, VA; 2 stepchildren, Christine (George) Wizner of Laingsburg, Michael (Susan) McPeak of DeWitt; 6 grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Ryan, Kelly (Randy) Smith, Tracy (Todd) Randall, Mathew and Kathryn McPeak; 5 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Lilly Smith, Alex, Austin, and Ty Randall; sisters, Gretchen (Dean) Kimble of Bremen, IN, Berneil (Bill) Butler of Niles, MI; and sister-in-law, Pat Hiester of Bremen, IN. Wendell graduated from Wabash College (class of 1941) with a bachelor's degree in math and physics. Wendell also served as a U.S. Navy Pilot during WWII. The Beckert and Hiester Company in Saginaw, a manufacturing agency, was owned and run by Wendell and business partner Bruce Beckert. Wendell also was a member of the Riverside Kiwanis Club in Saginaw, a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Lansing, St. John, and Faith Lutheran in Saginaw. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Noon, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington, DeWitt, MI with Pastors Gary Bunge and Douglas Kahl officiating. Interment will follow at the DeWitt Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the DeWitt Chapel on Wednesday, August 18, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The family would like to thank Clare Bridge of Delta and In-House Hospice for the wonderful loving care they gave Wendell.
