Phyllis Bos Obituary

Phyllis Elaine Bos Topinabee Age 76, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, October 26, 2009. She was born August 29, 1933, in Lansing, MI to Wendell and Rosellen (Weir) Blair and she married her high school sweetheart, Andrew Richard Bos, on September 15, 1951. Phyllis was a devoted daughter and sister, a faithful wife and delightful partner, a mother and grandmother of unconditional love and acceptance, a mentor and friend without judgment, but most of all a grace-filled follower of Christ. Her life was marked by service to others: she taught Sunday School for over 30 years; she was a true Titus 2 woman, caring for older women in her youth and mentoring younger women in her later years; and one of her greatest spiritual gifts was hospitality, as she opened her home and heart to so many people. She was a gifted artist, a voracious reader, and a seasoned traveler. Phyllis is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Dick, and her four children: Denise (Jim) Ackerman of Topinabee, Susan (Steve) Philip of Bath, Lisa (Kirk) Vallier of Caledonia, and Andy (Joyce) Bos of Jenison, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and her brother Stu (Mary) Blair of Topinabee. Phyllis was a long-time member of South Baptist Church in Lansing and more recently a member of Indian River Baptist Church. Visitation will be at Indian River Baptist Church on Thursday, November 5, 2009, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial service will also be held in Lansing on Saturday, November 7th. Visitation at 11:00 a.m., the service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at South Church, 5250 Cornerstone Dr, Pastor Don Denyes officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Greater Europe Mission for the ministry of Jim and Carolyn Fasold (#15300). Donations can be made online at www.GEMission.org/donate or by mail to GEM USA, 18950 Base Camp Rd, Monument, CO 80132.

Dear Dick, We just learned of your great loss and want to express our sympathy to you and your family. Phyllis loaned me her wedding veil over 55 years ago and it worked for us as it did for the two of you. The comments are wonderful from those who knew her well over the years and I'm sure a comfort to all of you. Cheryl and Buzz

I am sorry that I did not get to meet the two of you when you came to visit my mom in Minnesota. I have heard many stories growing up of the fun and mischief that she and my mom got into growing up. I am truly sorry for your loss and know that you are in our prayers. She sounded like an incredible woman. I wish there was a way to get my mom there because I know she would want to be there to honor her.

Life is like a blank canvas awaiting your joys and sorrows, your triumphs and struggles, your roses and thorns and I was lucky enough to have had the guidance and influence of a phenomenal artist help bring my canvas to life. Phyllis touched my soul with her kindness and wisdom and she entered my heart with her guidance and love during the many storms of my life. I will always be thankful to her for continually reminding me in word, and showing me by modeling the way she lived her life,to always look for the blessing in the thorn.
Dick, we love you and our prayers are with you.

Phyllis was always there for me when I needed a friend and mentor. A "prayer partner" until the very end and someone who became closer to me than my own family. She has been in my thoughts ever since she first got sick and will continue to be there for the rest of my life. I would be lucky to be just half the woman she was. I cannot even begin to describe how much I will miss her, and I know that God is very lucky to have her in his presence now. My prayers are with you Dick. Love,
