Rice Lynn Fowler, 93, of Lansing, formerly of Charlotte, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.  Lynn was born May 27, 1923 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Rice Charles and Gladys (Scott) Fowler.  He graduated from Charlotte High School in 1941. Lynn attended MSU for one year while he waited for an appointment to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Lynn graduated from the academy in the class of 1946 and stayed two years in the Fleet, with North Carolina as his first assignment and Manchester, a light cruiser as his next. Lynn joined Fowler's Inc. in 1947, and in 1951 they would become a Chevy-Olds dealer that Lynn would later be the owner of. Lynn was recalled to the US Navy Reserves for two years serving on the USS Black and USS Zellers. After returning from the reserves Lynn worked at the Fowler's Dealership before retiring in 1986.

After retiring Lynn moved to Naples, FL where he married Shirley M. Sheldon on May 15, 1991. Lynn was very active in the community serving as the Chairman of Eaton County Red Cross fund drive for two years, Chairman of Charlotte Community Chest fund drive, Chairman of Charlotte United Fund Drive, member of Charlotte City Council for six years, Mayor Pro Tem for one year, member of the Congregational Church Board of Trustees for six years, Congregational Church head usher for the month of April for eight years, President of Washington School PTA, Chairman of Charlotte High School & Grade school building upgrading & millage fund drive, Board of Directors for Charlotte Jaycees, Board of Directors Charlotte Parking Authority for five years, Board of Directors Charlotte Rotary, President of Charlotte Rotary 1959-1960, 3rd Congressional District Chairman Republican Party of MI for four years, alternate delegate to Republican National Convention in Miami, member of Republican 3rd District Committee for seven years, member of Charlotte Masonic Lodge including Scottish Rite & Shrine, member of VFW, member of American Legion, Board of Directors for Frontier Days for four years, Chairman for Charlotte Frontier Days, and a member of The Charlotte Eagles Lodge.

Lynn is survived by his wife, Shirley (Sheldon) Fowler; children, Mindy (Michael) Guzzardo of Brighton, MI, Rice Thomas (JoAnne) Fowler of Vermontville, MI, and Pete "Dort" (Svetlana) Fowler of Brooklyn, NY; step-children Jerry (Sherri) Sanders of Port Charlotte, FL, Larry Sanders of Charlotte, MI, and Jane Jensen of Lansing, MI; 10 grandchildren; and 11great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents Gladys Ione and Rice Charles Fowler.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Phil Hobson officiating.  Visitation will be just prior to the service, from 10-11:00 a.m.  Interment will take place in Maple Hill Cemetery.  If desired, the family suggests memorial contributions to Heartland Hospice.  Friends and family are encouraged to share memories of Lynn on his tribute page at www.PrayFuneral.com.
