Richard Babbitt Obituary

Richard D. Babbitt Portland Age 80, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. He was born on March 14, 1930 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Austin and Grace (Raider) Babbitt. Mr. Babbitt was an active member of the Portland United Methodist Church and Past Master of the Portland Masonic Lodge #31, F & AM. He worked for T.R.W. in Portland for 38 years before retiring. He married Doris Ann VanAmburg on October 8, 1949 and in 2009 they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Surviving are his wife, Doris; 2 children, Linda (Randy) Sandborn of Portland and Timothy (Pamela) Babbitt of Arizona; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Nelva (Richard) Sherman of Potterville; several nieces and nephews. The Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Portland United Methodist Church with Rev. Keith Treman officiating. Interment will take place at North Eagle Cemetery, Eagle, MI. The family will receive friends at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. that evening. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of Mr. Richard D. Babbitt.
