I am stunned to hear of Rick's passing.I first met him in 1972 through friends who were renting from him on Abbott Road, where I later took a room as well.Over time we cooked together, produced a radio program about food, banged out show tunes on his piano, went for fantastic weekend sails on his boat "Inshalla", made great dinner parties with a tight group of terrific friends- I first learned about Julia Child and J & B Scotch from Rick!

He was such a generous, social but shy soul. And always observing the world and the way it worked from his own special perspective.

I moved away but tried to keep in touch over the years, as did many of our group. We tried to make a reunion happen last year, but couldn't, which I shall always regret.

My sincere condolences to his family all of whose names I heard spoken many times. Oddly, I was just thinking of him when I was in Vancouver, gazing at the sea. He often talked about sailing with his brother in Seattle, occasions he dearly loved.

Rick, you were the best of friends and helped set me sailing on my own course through life. I already miss you more than you will ever know.
