Theodore Borsum Obituary

Theodore A. Borsum Grand Ledge Theodore August Borsum completed this lifetime journey of 89 years on November 10, 2010. He was a loving husband to Barbara, his wife of 69 years; a loving father to three daughters: Dianne (Tom) Westfall, Carole (Jim) Dickinson, and Nancy (Frank) Gagnon. He also leaves joyful and loving memories for his 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. "Ted" was born in Reed City, MI to August and Esther (Brehm) Borsum on August 24, 1921, the oldest of five children. He leaves three sisters: Marie Ginther of East Lansing, Ruth (Hal) Albert of Las Vegas, NV, and Betty Barber of Newberry, MI. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred Borsum of Middleville, MI. Ted attended MSU before his WWII Army Air Force service as an aerial gunner and a gunnery instructor. He worked at Planet Corporation of Lansing, starting as a steel fabricator and becoming a Project Engineer for projects like the elevator system in the St. Louis Arch. He retired at age 75 as a Project Engineer for Automatic Systems, Inc. of Kansas City. Ted thought "Heaven on Earth" was the proper name for the Upper Peninsula, and enjoyed many primitive camping trips for fishing and hunting on the Two-hearted and Fox rivers with his brother and hunting friends. He also enjoyed being a pilot and his association with the Grand Ledge Airport. The family will receive friends at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, 301 E. Jefferson St., Grand Ledge on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 2 - 5 p.m. Family burial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sparrow Home Hospice, Sparrow Foundation, P.O. Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909-9986 or the Eaton Community Hospice, 2675 S. Cochran, Charlotte, MI 48813. Online condolences may be made at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com.

Ted was a true Gentleman with a kind heart and truely caring nature. As a former employee of both Planet and ASI myself, I look back upon those days with fond memories of a time when companies were more like family then business, and Ted was like the wise uncle, who always kept an even keel in rough waters. I am proud to have known him, and wish to extend my condolences to his family for the loss of this great man. - Roger Esch.
