Timothy H. "Coop" Cooper Obituary
Timothy H. "Coop" Cooper Charlotte Timothy H. "Coop" Cooper, 58, of Charlotte passed away on October 4, 2012 at Eaton Community Palliative Care in Charlotte, MI. He was born on May 14, 1954 to Bob and Beverly (Roan) Cooper in Charlotte. Tim graduated from Charlotte High School in 1972. While attending Lansing Community College he worked as a Respiratory Therapist at Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte and completed his paramedic training in 1978. In that same year, he began teaching in the LCC EMS programs as a part-time faculty member. It was during his time there that he earned the name "Coop", as he was affectionately known by his students and fellow faculty members, Those were the days of "Emergency", a popular 1970s television show which introduced "paramedics" to the world. Coop became a lifetime fan, holding Squad 51 characters Johnny Gage and Roy DeSoto, in high regard. Coop's office displayed many pieces of "Emergency" memorabilia. As a popular instructor, Coop was most interested in the success of his students. Likewise, his students demonstrated appreciation for their instructor by keeping him updated on their career pursuits. Many students maintained contact with Coop, many years after their graduation. Tim also shared a close relationship with the faculty and office staff at LCC. Tim was presented with the 1992 Distinguished Faculty Award by LCC, recognizing his work with the EMS programs. In 2006, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Michigan Association of Emergency Medical Technicians. A lifetime devoted to the education of countless EMS providers has now ended. The final ambulance ride, with lights flashing and sirens blaring, is over. Coop has left a large hole to fill. He will be missed by his friends, family and his LCC EMS family. Tim is survived by his father; sisters Laura Cooper and Robin (Scott) Stair; nephews Nic and Ben Kimble; Jason, Jeremy, Justin and Jacob (Katie Knapp) Stair; niece, Jacqueline (Ian Vanderlinde) Stair; his faithful companion, Boomer; and great nephew, Parker Kimble; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Cooper. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 7, 2012 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm and Monday, October 8 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, MI.
