Ward Gillett Obituary

Ward B. Gillett, Jr. Lansing Age 91, passed away September 14, 2009. He was born July 10, 1918 in Lansing, the son of Ward Sr. and Alice (Piper) Gillett. Ward was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He was a graduate of MSU and always loved MSU athletics and academics. Ward retired in 1981 following 35 years of employment with Auto-Owners Insurance. He was a longtime member of First Church of Christ Scientist in Lansing and a life member of Lansing Lodge #33 F. & A.M. He enjoyed square dancing and was an avid golfer. Ward was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen Plank-Gillett in 1983, and sister Mary Alice Gillett-Dibble. He is survived by his niece, Ann Marie Halsey and her husband, Jody; great-nephews, Anthony Bateman and Cody Halsey; niece, Diane Gillett-Dibble of San Francisco; and nephews, Greg Dibble of Carmichael and George Dibble III of Sacramento, CA. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel with Reader Sara Lincoln of First Church of Christ Scientist officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
