William Beckett Obituary

William "Billy" Andrew Beckett Lansing Age 25, loving son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend passed away into eternal life on Saturday, August 8, 2009, in Lansing, MI, with the love of his life, Monica "Mona" Moreno. The two were inseparable and had begun to plan their future together. Billy was born September 9, 1983, in Lansing, MI, a son of William Austin Beckett and DeeAnn Macklem. When Billy was a youngster, he spent the majority of his time being a typical boy and finding a way to get into any sort of mischief he could. He also participated on many sports teams and loved to sing in the choir. Later, he attended Grand Ledge High School, where he was a pitcher for the baseball team. He then graduated from Sawdon Alternative High School in 2002 and Grand Ledge High School in 2003. Billy's true passion in life was his family and friends. He loved nothing more than large family gatherings, where he proceeded to tell jokes and share stories, which made everyone cry from laughing so hard. Billy spent a lot of time with Layla, his Rottweiler, which he and Mona thought of as their baby-girl. He also loved to play sports, especially basketball and golf, with his brother and best friends while turning everything into a competition (that he somehow always won). He had a genuine, kind, caring, compassionate soul that radiated out onto every life he touched. Billy truly was "that guy" to every life he was a part of and will be greatly missed. Eeeeeeeent Billy is survived by his parents, William (Jeanne) Beckett and DeeAnn (Lloyd) Macklem; brother and sisters, Amy (Jason) Krause, Patrick (Melissa) Grace, Susie Grace (Justin Garner) and Katie Beckett (David Land); aunts and uncles, Dave (Lisa) Prescott, Peg Giller and Barb Beckett; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, whom he considered brothers, Jake and Wes. Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 15, at 2 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6-9 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to Hospice of Lansing, 4052 Legacy Parkway, Suite 200, Lansing, MI, 48911, in memory of William "Billy" Beckett.

Billy and Mona, It has almost been two years. Not a day goes by when I don't think about you. Not only has your life been taken, but it seems that all of ours have been taken as well. The world is a much less beautiful place without you two in it. I am so honored to have been blessed with you as my brother and sister. I love you both. Keep poppin up in my dreams, please; it helps me to carry on. Kate

Losing an old high school friend can make you want the old times back. I seen Billy a few years ago, little did I know he lived around the corner from my son's grandparents, I've walked by there so many times. Good times will be remembered. Rest In Peace Billy, you are truly loved and missed by so many.
Thank you to Billy's neighbors who tried to help save them. To the family: May God be with you in this difficult time.

This is still so shocking to me. I will remeber him as a multi-talented person who just had this aura about him that made you want to laugh... especially when you were bored after school waiting for your basketball game to start. Although it has been awhile since I had seen him, I feel like it was just yesterday that we were in middle school at Hayes. So tragic. My heart is broken for both families.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Beckett family. Billy could always bring a smile to your face. His sence of humor is something I will NEVER forget. I havent seen Billy in couple years but he used to say this particular phrase that would crack me and MANY others up..."WHEEEEW WHEEEEWW WHEEEWWW!" That was Billy for ya.
He will be missed. :(

My favorite memories of Billy are what a great boy he was..and his amazing! left-handed pitching going back to younger teams in GL..

Next would be as his neighbor..anytime he was with friends, if I went out on my porch(they likes the little screned -in porch section)..he was ALWAYS polite and sweet to me..I'd say: "Hey guys, could ya keep it down ..and Billy would right away answe me.."Miss Diebolt..we will"!
He grew up with my son Dan..and being neighbors with the Beckett family made my life so much more fun and rewarding.

Bill, Dee and Katie..
Love you all and believe we will ALL meet again.
