William Richards Obituary

William B. "Pops" Richards Lansing Age 82, passed away April 22, 2010. He was born December 22, 1927 in Lansing the son of Reginald and Mary (Paynter) Richards. William was a member of Central United Methodist Church since 1945 and was active in the choir since 1950. He graduated from Michigan State University and belonged to the MSU Alumni Association, MSU Rebounders Club and the Downtown Coaches Club. William also worked for MSU for over 30 years, retiring in 1993. He played in an over 70-softball league and several bowling leagues. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean Richards; 2 daughters, Kelley J. Richards and Lynne M. Richards; and brother, Anthony W. Richards. He is survived by his wife, Karen Wallace; children, William B. Richards, Jr., Robert David Richards and Christopher Alan Richards; 10 stepchildren, Cathy (Jon) Sayer, Jerry Wallace, Chris Wallace, Kim Wallace, Duane Daugherty, Eldonna Daugherty, Patricia Chovance, Linda Rourke, Sharon Daugherty, Roland Smith; 23 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and sister, Marian (Fred) Hodgson. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen F. Ezop, M.Div. officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central United Methodist Church Music Department.
