William Christopher "Chris" DeWitt William Christopher "Chris" DeWitt lost the good fight and went to be with his grandfathers, grandmother and the angels on Friday, February 3, 2012, after a long battle with Cancer. He is the son of William and Debora DeWitt of Grand Ledge, Michigan. Born in Lansing, Michigan at St. Lawrence Hospital on January 9, 1986, Chris grew up in North Manchester, Indiana where he attended Manchester High School and Manchester College, studying Art. Chris was not only a talented artist, but an outstanding musician, both vocally and on the guitar. Also well-traveled, he toured with the Manchester College A Cappella Choir performing a composition by his mother, "Prayer for Peace," in Italy, Austria and Carnegie Hall. Chris recently sought to expand his artistic talents to cooking by attending Grand Rapids Community College and seeking a degree in the culinary arts. His friends and family describe him as a genuinely kind person who made the world a better place. He had an amazingly open and creative means of expression. He was a most gentle and gallant giant. He had the biggest heart, the bravest soul, the loudest laugh, the sharpest wit and the most tender spirit. Chris was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his parents, Bill and Deb; his sister, Alana Grace DeWitt, of Warsaw, Indiana; his brother, Gregory Hap DeWitt, of Grand Ledge; his Grandmother, Doris Meredith, of Grand Ledge; his aunts and uncles, Suellen DeWitt, of Grand Ledge; Rick and Kelly (Jonas) DeWitt of Grand Ledge, Jarrod and Jane(DeWitt) Thompson of North Manchester, IN, John and Vicky (Meredith) Schwartz of Grand Ledge; John and Penny (Hines) Meredith of Grand Ledge; Paul and Caroline (Cheng) Meredith of Shanghai, China; Keith and Sarah (Meredith) Eaton of Leslie; and his cousins, Brandon, Josh and Caleb DeWitt of Grand Ledge; Savannah Thompson of North Manchester, IN; Karen Schwartz of Grand Ledge; Sherman, Gabriel and Melanie Meredith of Shanghai; and Valerie and Michael Eaton of Leslie; as well as great aunts and uncles, cousins and countless friends. Chris was preceded in death by his Grandparents William and Ruth DeWitt and Edward Meredith. Visitation for Chris will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home Grand Ledge. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Ledge with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org). Condolences may be shared at www.holihanatkin.com or at www.caringbridge.org/visit/wChrisDeWitt.
