Ruth Espia Woodard Lansing Ruth Espia Woodard was born February 26, 1917, in Athens Georgia, to James L. and Pinkie (Austin) Johnson. Ruth passed away on February 18, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Ruth found Christ at an early age under the direction of Reverend James Hunt Jr. Ruth worked diligently in the church on the Nurses Guild and the Culinary Committee. She participated in many other church activities. Ruth attended the Lansing Public Schools. Ruth joined James T. Woodard in Holy Matrimony. To this union, four children were born. Ruth worked as a cook at the Scofess Restaurant. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her children: daughter, Ruth A Davis, and three sons, Charles E. Woodard, James N. Woodard, Ronald G. Woodard. She is survived by one sister, Melva L. Strickland, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ruth was kind, fun loving, and a wealth of information and advice. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank the staff of The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Heartland Hospice for the care Ruth received. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 23, 2014, from noon until 7 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home, 426 W. St. Joseph St., Lansing, MI. Funeral services will be Monday, February 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, 5200 Pleasant Grove Road, Lansing, MI, with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service.
