Gerald "Jerry" Byron Morley, 76, formerly of Goldsboro, N.C., passed away Friday, March 14, 2014, after a short illness at the Douglas T Jacobson State Veterans Home in Port Charlotte, Fla. Jerry was born June 8, 1937, in Lansing, Mich., the son of the late Glendon Payne and Ruth Marion (Baxter) Morley.
Jerry is survived by two sons, Anthony Lee (Michele) Morley, I of Venice, Fla and Brian Keith (Laureen) Morley of Mystic, Conn.; two daughters Marion Elizabeth "Beth" Degnan of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Diana Lynn Sanches of Goldsboro, N.C.; Sister Janet Sue (Chuck) Bumstead of Ste St. Marie, Mich, Brother Jon (Sharon) Morley of Ste St. Marie, Mich. and Sister Joanne Marion (Robert) Garland of Lansing, Mich; Grandchildren Shane Patrick Morley, Dustin Lee Waters, Anthony Lee Morley, II, Tiffani Marie Sanches, Joshua Clarence Morley, Stephen James Mahoney-Morley. Other survivors include, Aunt Norma Wirick, Uncle Ed Eldridge, Brother-in-law, Harold Jablenski Jr., and numerous nieces and nephews.
After his retirement in 1973, he moved to Goldsboro, N.C. and in 2003, he moved to Port Charlotte, Fla. Jerry spent 20 years in the United States Navy. A Veteran who served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He traveled over 42 Islands and Countries during and after his Naval Career.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 6:00pm at the Sonshine Baptist Church in Port Charlotte, Fla. In Lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made in Jerry's name to the Sonshine Baptist Church Missionary Fund, 23105 Veterans Blvd, Port Charlotte, Fla. 33954.
Arrangements made by Ewing Funeral Home, Venice, Fla. a private Interment will be at Venice Memorial Gardens.
