Russell A. Hagerman

Lansing

Russell A. Hagerman, 94, of Lansing, Michigan, passed away April 8, 2014.  Russell was born August 27, 1919 in Fulton Township, Gratiot County, Michigan to the late Clarence and Nettie (Wager) Hagerman. 

He attended Middleton Schools before moving to Lansing, MI.  He joined the 119th Field Artillery Regiment in Lansing in 1940.  On December 29, 1941, he married Jeane Reckard.  Russell served during WWII in the Philippines and Japan, earning the Presidential Unit Citation.  After the war he continued in the Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Colonel.  He would remain a devoted supporter of the armed forces throughout his life.  He was involved in Red Arrow, Michigan Chapter of the Field Artillery Association, MOAA, and was a member of the Hall of Fame in Ft. Sill, OK. 

Russell married Alice L. Chapin on April 4, 1952.  In retirement, Alice and Russell were avid golfers and bowlers; they enjoyed participating in many leagues.  Russell won several tournaments and friends on the green, even managing to hit six holes-in-one. 

Russell is preceded in death by his son, Donald; first wife, Jeane; brothers: Carlos, Jack, Richard, and Gary; sisters, Thelma and Mildred; and his parents.  Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Alice; son, David (Charlotte); brothers, Clarence and Robert; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, April 14, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Faith Church, 2300 Lake Lansing Rd., Lansing, MI 48912.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service for visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Church at the address listed above or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.

Russell was always ready to serve others in any way he could.  His family and friends will miss him greatly.
