Jeffrey Gerard Maltby

Jeffrey "Wally" Gerard Maltby, Age 57, of Lansing, went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 19, 2014, while resting peacefully and surrounded by his children. Born on July 4, 1956, in Lansing, MI, Jeff was known to all as a loving, caring, generous soul with a heart of gold and a personality and sense of humor that could light up a room. Jeff graduated in 1974 from Lansing Catholic Central, where he was not only a sensational baseball and football star, but a memorable, charismatic classmate and friend as well.  He went on to graduate from the Police Academy and eventually retired from Ingham County.  After retirement, Jeff went on to fulfill his lifelong dream to own and operate an Italian restaurant filled with his family's recipes and traditions. Jeff was an avid sports fan and was also known to many as their favorite coach, as he had a passion for coaching football, baseball, and basketball, and did so in the Lansing and Mason areas for over 20 years of his life. He also loved to cook, share stories, make people laugh, and spend time with his children.

Jeff is preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Gloria Maltby, and is survived by his children, Andrew, Lesley, and Richard (Lindsey). Jeff is also known as "Papa", as he is survived by his one "grandmiracle", Maximus Gerard Maltby, son of Richard and Lindsey.  Jeff is also survived by his siblings, Angela Dyer, Patrick, Bethany (Jeff) Hudcosky, and David, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless special friends and loved ones.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 11:00AM at St. Casimir Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Bill Lugger as celebrant. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Research in memory of Jeffrey Maltby by visiting the following website: Condolences can be made at
