Zella Lou Holcomb went to be with the Lord she loved on May 7, 2014. She was 93 years old. She was a longtime resident of Lansing, Michigan, but for the past 3 years she lived in Jacksonville, Florida.
Zella lived on Hemlock Place in Colonial Village for 50 years and her grandson Billy nicknamed her, "The Rock of Hemlock." Zella retired from the Lansing School District where she was a cafeteria worker at Dwight Rich Middle School. She spent time volunteering at many local bingo games. She was a member of South Baptist Church for 60 years and a more recent member of Fort Caroline Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Her favorite bible verse was Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Zella loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren. She loved word searches and she loved to color with her great-grandchildren.
Zella, nicknamed GG, was preceded in death by 6 sisters and 2 brothers, her husband Robert, of 54 years, and her son William. She is survived by her son Tom (Suzanne) of Jacksonville, daughter Brenda Harvey of Lansing, 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
