Hugh E. Zweering

Okemos/Williamston

Hugh passed away May 14, 2014 at the age of 91.  He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  Born August 9, 1922 to Henry and Ruth, he was an only child.  Hugh married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lou and she preceded him in death in 1984.

He is survived by his son, Larry (Christine), daughter, Zandy (Tony), grandchildren, Matt (Jessi) and Katie (Ed) and 5 wonderful great grandchildren.

Hugh graduated from Lansing Central High School (Sexton) and was inducted into the Greater Lansing Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 for his performance on the 1938 Central High State Champion football team.  He played football for Michigan State University and graduated with a degree in Business from MSU.  He was a past president of the MSU Alumni Association.  Hugh served honorably in WW II and was stationed in the Philippines.  He established the Bilt Rite Construction Company in 1952, which is operated today by his son and grandson.  Hugh always put his family first and never missed a sporting event in which his children or grandchildren participated.  He loved spending time at the family cottage and "going to the Lake" was one of his greatest joys.  His humor, wit, generosity and loving sprit will always be remembered by those who knew him.

According to Hugh's wishes no service or visitation is planned.  Contributions can be made in Hugh's memory to Eaton Community Palliative Care, 2675 S. Cochran, Charlotte, MI  48813.
