Cheryl Lynn VandeHaar, age 55, of Eaton Rapids, MI, died peacefully at home with her family on Saturday morning, May 24, after a long battle with liver cancer.   

Cheryl was born April 3, 1959, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Marvin and Jeanette (Beekhuizen) De Bruin.  She leaves her husband of 31 years, Michael, and their three sons, John and wife Anna, Jacob and wife Jin, and Peter.  She also leaves her parents, a sister and five brothers, as well as several nieces and nephews, and members of Mike's family. 

Cheryl began playing piano and organ as a young girl and spent her life making beautiful music and teaching others to do the same.  She was a pianist, organist, and contemporary worship planner at River Terrace Church, East Lansing, from 1990 to 2005.  She taught elementary music at Lansing Christian School from 2006 to 2011. 

Cheryl was a loving wife and mother, who made time with family a priority.  She was a loyal friend who looked out for the interests of others.  Cheryl was a graceful pianist and joy-filled worship leader.  She was a passionate teacher, who fostered her students' strengths.  Cheryl loved finding beauty in art, music, and the world around her, and creating beauty to be enjoyed by others.  She reached out to others and touched many lives.  She was a faithful servant of her Lord Jesus Christ, living life to the full in her 55 years.  She will be greatly missed.  

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 10:30 AM, at River Terrace Church, 1509 River Terrace Drive, East Lansing, MI 48823.  Interment will follow in the Dimondale Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday and Friday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing, MI 48933. 

Memorial contributions may be made to River Terrace Church for a Worship Music Scholarship or to Lansing Christian School for the music teaching program.
