Loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was called to be with the Lord on May 25, 2014. Elmer was born August 23, 1921 in Bay County, Michigan to the late Henry and Margareth Feinauer. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church of DeWitt, Michigan. Elmer was also a former member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Amelith, Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Saginaw, and Ascension Lutheran Church of East Lansing.
He was preceded in death by his wife Harriet (Gaiser) Feinauer of 59 years; infant son, Neil Allen Feinauer; daughter, Ashley Fay Feinauer-Eakin; brothers Melvin, Erwin, Harold and Hilmar Feinauer; sisters, Aurelia Feinauer, Ruth Beiser, and Esther Wiesenauer. Surviving to cherish his memory are his sons, Dr. Ken (Moira) Feinauer, and Mark (Amy) Feinauer; son-in-law Michael Eakin; grandchildren, Joslin (Michael) Monahan J.D., Dr. Erik (Jacqueline) Feinauer, Dr. Jon (Laura) Feinauer, Dr. Kylie (Anders) Lindquist, Dr. Aaron and Dr. Sara Feinauer; Stephanie Eakin, Kimberly (Eric) Grall and Patrick Eakin; great-grandchildren, Elin Lindquist, Anthony Monahan, Genevieve Feinauer, Henry Lindquist, Audrey Monahan, Eliot Feinauer, Kassidy Wooten and Bradley Pyykkonen. Also surviving are sister, Mildred Ferrio; sisters-in-law, Mildred (Millie) Gaiser, Wilma (Tudy) Wieck; brother-in-law, Armond Kipfmiller.
Elmer was a member of the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the 96th Infantry Division during the Southern Philippines and the Okinawa Campaigns where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. Elmer was a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans, and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Hope Lutheran Church, 1180 West Herbison Rd. DeWitt, Michigan with the Rev. E. Anthony Sikora officiating. Visitation will be Friday, May 30, 2014 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 205 E. Washington in DeWitt from 4:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. Military honors will take place at the graveside service on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 3:30 pm at Floral Gardens Cemetery, Bay City, Michigan. Those desiring may make contributions to Hope Lutheran Church, DeWitt or to Michigan Disabled Veterans.
