Harold R. Larson

Harold R. Larson was born January 29, 1924 to Raymond and Astrid (Swartstrom) Larson, and passed away May 29, 2014 at age 90. Harold served in the US Army Signal Core in WW11, and was stationed in England where he met his wife Margaret (Duckham) Larson, and they recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. He enjoyed being a mail courier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, was a longtime winning coach for girls' softball, and was a Williamston School Board Member. Harold was the founder of the Williamston Christmas Clearing Bureau, which gave families toys and Christmas dinner. This led to the founding of the Williamston Food Bank to distribute food to the community all year round. He found it very rewarding to handle and store hospital equipment to loan to at-need families through the American Legion. Harold was the very first person to be awarded the "Williamston Citizen of The Year" through Kiwanis.

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sharon Griffen, granddaughter Amber Michelle Larson, and brother Jerry Larson. Harold is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters Gail Martin (Joe Carr), Robin (Russell) Thurber, son David (Judy) Larson, and "special son" Klaus Jossen, grandchildren Jennifer (Jeremy), Michael (Valerie), Heather (Michael), Michelle (Dan), Amy (Charlie), Amanda (Chad), Katie (Jason), Ryan (Ariana), Trevor (Katie), great-grandchildren Lauren, Elijah, Jeremy, Logan, Brooklynn, Emma, Joseph, Owen, Graedyn, and Elyse.

Services were held Monday June 2, 2014. Contributions may be made to the Williamston Food Bank, P.O. Box 65, Williamston, MI 48895, or the Williamston School Foundation, P.O. Box 70, Williamston, MI 48895.
