Eleanor Jeune (Bishop) Lake

Eleanor Jeune Lake, aka "Pat", passed away June 20, 2014. She was born August 9, 1921 to Harold and Jessie (Smith) Bishop in Sunfield, MI. Eleanor spent her entire life in the Sunfield area, graduating from Sunfield High School in 1939. She attended Western Michigan University for one year, then moved to Lansing and graduated from Lansing Business University. She worked as a secretary at Oldsmobile until her marriage to George "Mike" Lake in 1943. Eleanor was a long-time member of the Sunfield United Brethren Church, and in her younger years participated in many church activities, including serving as Sunday School teacher for many years. She also worked seven years as a teacher's aide at the Sunfield Elementary School. After she and her husband retired in 1978, they spent 30 years wintering in Lakeland, Florida. Eleanor and her husband were avid golfers and enjoyed more than 30 years as members of Centennial Acres. They also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband in 2010 and son, Douglas in 2011. She leaves to mourn her, two sons, Rod (Marcia) Lake of Sunfield; Mark (Sue) Lake of Lake Odessa; one daughter, Cheryl (Von) Phillips of Kalamazoo; one daughter-in-law, Susan Lake of Lake Odessa; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a brother-in-law, Kenneth Taylor of Battle Creek, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Her competitive spirit, joyful nature and strong faith in the Lord proved to be an inspiration to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday June 25, 2014 at the Sunfield United Brethren Church with Pastor Roy Atherton officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Tuesday June 24, 2014 also at the Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the SPY's Scholarship fund, or the Sunfield United Brethren Church, c/o RFH PO Box 36 Sunfield, MI 48890. The family is being served by the Independent Family Owned Funeral Home in Sunfield: Rosier Funeral Home.
