Albert Franklin Shaffer
The Guest Book is expired.
Albert was called to his eternal resting place on Sunday afternoon, June 22,
2014 with his children and legacy surrounding him as he passed from this world to the next.
Albert was born on Saturday, July 6, 1929 to Frances Burkey Shaffer and Gertrude Evelyn Shaffer in Mason, Michigan. He was the final addition to a family with two daughters and one other son. He experienced a happy and fulfilling childhood that culminated in his graduation from Mason High School in the spring of 1946. He then began to serve his country in the United States Air Force and when he left, he did so as a respected Staff Sergeant, with honors. After leaving the military, he went to work at Capital Business Service in Lansing, Michigan. He then married Joyce Louise Morlock on June 26, 1953 and their first child, Debra Lee, was born just over a year later on July 31, 1954. Daughter, Sheryl Lynn followed two years later in 1956 and their only son, Timothy Gordon, was born in 1957. Albert and Joyce were creatures of habit. Their fourth and final child, Kelly Ann was born six years to the day after their first born. They raised their family in the Lansing/Mason area. After their youngest had made her way into high school, Albert went to work for the State of Michigan, from which he retired. The couple moved to Mecosta, Michigan to enjoy their retirement and visits from family from the comfort of a beautiful deck looking out over an even more beautiful lake. Joyce spent her days gardening and crafting as Albert spent his days fishing. Upon Joyce's passing in December of 2004, Albert made the decision to move back to Lansing and live out the remainder of his incredible life near two of his four children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings: Evelyn (Aunt Pinkie), John (Uncle Jack) and Vivian, as well as his loving wife, Joyce Louise Shaffer.
He is remembered by his children and grandchildren: Debra Lee Shaffer of San Diego, CA; Sheryl Lynn Lonsbury (Gary) and their children Tanner and Jade of St. Petersburg, FL; Timothy Gordon Shaffer and his son Nicholas of Charlotte, MI; and Kelly Ann Hayes and her daughters Dejah, Alexis and Roslyn of Lansing, MI; as well as great-grandchildren: Alexis' daughter, Alexandra; Nicholas' son, Ryu; and Roslyn's son, Noah Jonathan. He also leaves to remember him a host of in laws and many nieces and nephews.
Albert is a born-again Christian and told his children days before his passing that he had a bowling date with their mother next week. His family eagerly anticipates the thunderstorm from all the strikes those two will hit on the lanes, up above.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel with Pastor Michael Schnieder officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 P.M. Contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice in memory of Albert.
Rest in peace, Albert. Your journey was long and prosperous. Your legacy will continue as your memory flows through those you've impacted and your blood flows through those you've created. Condolences may be made at www.palmerbush.com
