Owen Holloway Marmon, 91, formerly of Okemos, Grand Ledge and Naples, Florida, passed away July 5, 2014 while a resident of Burcham Hills Retirement Center.
Owen was born in Detroit on January 18, 1923 to Ira and Lillian Marmon. After graduating from Eastern High School, he entered the Army Air Corp and was honored for completing 16 bombing missions. He graduated from MSU on the GI Bill.
He met his wife, Marilyn, while on leave from service. They married June 15, 1946 and made their home in Okemos, Michigan where they raised three daughters.
Owen enjoyed a rewarding career at Auto-Owners Insurance Company, assuming the role of CEO and Chairman of the Board prior to his retirement. He was privileged to serve on the Boards of Sparrow Hospital, American Bank & Trust and First of America Bank.
Owen believed travelling was essential to education and was fortunate to have travelled extensively with his wife. His passion for playing the piano filled their home with music and nurtured his creative needs for many years. Lyn and Owen spent their retirement years in Naples, Florida enjoying golf and good weather. To know Owen was to know a quiet man, rich in modesty, discipline, ethics and compassion.
Owen was preceded in death by his brother Leon.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and three daughters, Nancy Kreider of DeWitt, Barbara Rock of Mason and Rebecca Ballard of Haslett; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A private family gathering will take place to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Greater Lansing Food Bank, P. O. Box 16224, Lansing, MI 48901.
