Paul Nieratko Obituary
Paul Eugene Nieratko

Paul Eugene Nieratko, 92, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014.

Paul was born the 10th of 12 children and raised in Moundsville, West Virginia where he met his high school sweetheart Edna. He, the captain of the Moundsville High School football team and she the librarian, married on August 14, 1948. They moved to Lansing, MI in 1949 where Paul became a baker and Edna a secretary and homemaker. From 1962 to 1987 Paul and Edna worked side by side as owners of Paul's Pastry Shop, sweetening the lives of thousands of Lansing residents, as well as the men and women of the LPD with their amazing baked goods, generosity and kindness.

Paul was a World War II Navy Veteran who served in the Pacific, training in San Diego and during the war on active duty on the USS Beale in the Aleutian Islands, Hawaii, New Guinea, Okinawa and Nagasaki, Japan.

Paul was an excellent parent and father, not only for his own three children but to numerous other young people whose lives he touched. Paul was an avid golfer who taught the game he loved to his family and many friends. In retirement Paul stayed active as a founding member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club, delivering Meals on Wheels, and on weekends volunteering with his wife Edna at the McRee House. More than words can say, he was loved and memories of Paul will be cherished forever.

Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife Edna, his parents Paul and Francesca Nieratko, brothers Paul, Peter, Tony, Edward, John, and Henry, and sisters Ida, Frances, Rose, Geneva, and Velma (Babe).

Paul is survived by his children Ann, Paul II (Maureen), Barb (Roberto Esquivel), and grandchildren Natalia Esquivel and Katie Lynwood (Rex Foster).

A memorial open house celebrating Paul and Edna will be held on Sunday, August 3rd from 12:00 noon - 5:00 p.m. at the Francis Park pavilion, Moores River Drive, Lansing.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of the bakery years, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Greater Lansing Food Bank in Paul's name.

The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel.  Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at
