Reatha Ilene Zentmyer


Reatha Ilene Zentmyer, 87, of Charlotte, MI., died August 19, 2014 after several years of declining health due to dementia. A life-time Eaton County resident, she lived her last several years at Elliott's Adult Foster Care residence in Charlotte where she received very competent care.   Born Oct. 7, 1926 in Carmel Township she was the second of six children born to Oren and Dortha (Bracy) Satterlee.

Reatha married Richard Zentmyer Dec. 22, 1946 following his WW-II European service.  She worked for Michigan Bell Telephone in the 40's and 50's as a telephone/switchboard operator.  They had one daughter, Lavonne Zentmyer-Norman, who predeceased them in 1994.  Lavonne was a great joy in their lives and were very proud of her accomplishments as a practicing dentist.

When able, she enjoyed square-dancing with her husband and was an avid bowler on various teams at Char-Lanes.  Reatha was a past president (1985) and lifetime member of the Maple City V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 2406. With her husband they attended and participated in many V.F.W. events across the nation.

Reatha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard of 56 years, her older brother Zane, and two younger brothers Gerald (Sam) and Dennis.  She is survived by two younger sisters, Donna Smith and Marilee Herman and by her sister-in-law Sue (Sam) Satterlee.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday at Pray Funeral Home, with Pastor Gary Wales Officiating.  Interment will follow in West Carmel Cemetery.  The family will receive visitors from 4- 6 PM Sunday at Pray Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the .
