Born in 1914 in Baghdad, Iraq, Dr. Raby overcame the substantial obstacles facing Iraqi Jews of the time to enroll in the Royal College of Medicine. He graduated at the top of his class, and was awarded two valedictory medals by King Faisal. Following his graduation, Dr. Raby served as personal physician to the Prime Minister and prominent government officials. Dr. Raby came to the United States in 1952, as a Visiting Fulbright Scholar in Microbiology at the Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, PA. Drawn to pediatrics because of his love of children, Dr. Raby moved to Michigan to join the staff of C.S. Mott Children's Hospital at the University of Michigan, where he was in charge of the newborn nursery. Dr. Raby later became Director of Outpatient Services at Children's Hospital of Michigan, and relocated to the Detroit area. In 1956, he established a successful private pediatric practice in Trenton and Southgate, Michigan, providing care to thousands of families before retiring at the age 74. Dr. Raby also held various director and staff positions at Wyandotte General, Seaway, Outer Drive, and Oakwood Hospitals. In retirement, Dr. Raby moved to Okemos, Michigan, where he delighted in the company of his grandchildren. Dr. Raby is survived by his children, Glen (Gail) Raby, Lynne (Ken) Page, Anita (Mark) Fox, and Mark Raby; his grandchildren, Shannon Raby, Kyle and Dana Page, and Tyler, Meredith and Gregory Fox; and his former wife, Barbara Raby.
