Bernard "Bernie" J. Gray Wacousta Age 84, our loving companion, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away December 9, 2012. Born September 16, 1928 in Washington, D.C. Bernie was a veteran serving with the U.S. Air Force. He began his long career becoming an agent with John Hancock for 20 years, later with U.S. F. & G. for 10 years, and most recently with the David Chapman agency. He enjoyed fishing Lake Michigan on his wooden boat "Charisma". He remained a licensed Airplane Pilot into his 80's. He was the Governor for the past 8 years of the Quiet Birdmen "QB's". He was a member of the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association; life member of the V.F.W. Post 6986 in Onondaga; member of the American Legion Post 0153; member of the 40 et 8; member of the N.R.A.; member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1039; member of the Ducks Unlimited. Bernie loved the air and the sea. Surviving are his companion of 35 years, Esther "Sunshine" Erickson; his daughters, Deborah Ann Gray, and Pauline "Polly" Gray; 2 grandchildren Teal (Robert) Campbell, and Susanne Gray; great-grandson, Kaleb Campbell; longtime dear friend, Richard Moulton; and numerous friends, business associates and fellow group members. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents Pauline and James Howard. Visitation is from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday with services 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 15, in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing. Military honors will be provided by the Morley Oates V.F.W. Post #701. Contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society in memory of Bernie.
