Lee Andrew "Pete" Canady, Lansing, was born March 17, 1929 in Detroit; the youngest of three children of the union of Clinton Canady and Jessie L. Smoot. He passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at the age of 83 after a brief illness. A graduate of Northern High School (Detroit), Pete continued his education at Central State University until 1951 when he was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps where he served 3 years. He was honorably discharged after 3 years of service attaining the rank of corporal. He then attended the Kerpel School of Dental Technology in Washington D.C., receiving a degree in dental technology. His professional life included working alongside his brother for over two decades as well as working for Xerox Corp. until his retirement. Pete was involved in many organizations; Model Cities, the Board of Police Commissioners for the City of Lansing, NAACP, The Masonic Lodge and Meals on Wheels to name only a few. He was also a member of Trinity A.M.E. Church. Pete was a great sports enthusiast as well and was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Canady Sr, mother, Jessie L. (Smoot) Canady, sister Earlene Davis, niece Candace and nephew William. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved brother, Dr. Clinton Canady Jr.; a loving daughter and son, Tonia Eugenia Canady and Lee Andrew Canady II; brother-in-law, William Davis, nephews, Clinton (Rita) Canady III, Alan (Margie) Canady, Mark Canady, and Joseph Goree; nieces Dr. Alexa (George) Canady-Davis and Renee Branch-Canady; several grandnieces and grandnephews, aunt, Winifred (Jones) Smoot, a host of cousins, and many, many, .many friends. Visitation will be Fri., Jan. 11, 2013, 6-8 p.m. Services will be Sat. Jan. 12, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with family hour 1 hour prior to services. All services will be held at Trinity A.M.E. Church, 3500 W. Holmes Rd., Lansing, MI. It was his wishes that black not be worn to his services. Arrangements entrusted to Swanson Funeral Home of Flint.
