Florence Nancy Siegrist Lansing Florence died on February 21 at the age of 89. She was born December 19, 1923 to James Cook and Louise (Robertson) Cook. Florence (Flo) graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1941 and began a career at Consumers Power. In 1946, she met William (Bill) Siegrist, a young man who had recently returned from serving in the U.S. Army during WWII. They quickly fell in love and married in June of 1947. Florence and Bill remained happily married for an amazing 65 years in their hometown of Lansing where they raised their two sons, Steven and William Siegrist. Flo was a successful homemaker who was also active in many community and social activities and events. Flo and Bill were members of both the Grand Ledge and Lansing Country Clubs. Florence enjoyed golf, dancing and was well known for her polished skills in the game of Bridge. Flo's artistic talent was well demonstrated in her many pottery and ceramic creations. She and Bill spent many happy years vacationing at their summer cottage on Lake George. Their lives were enhanced by various travels across the country to cities such as Atlanta, New York, Miami and San Francisco. Florence will be best remembered for her devotion to family. She was an outstanding cook and her efforts were much appreciated by Bill, along with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very fond of Christmas, loved animals and always looked forward to fresh tomatoes produced in her garden. Flo demonstrated incredible courage over her lifetime as exemplified by her battles with cancer and macular degeneration. Although she was robbed of her sight, Flo continued to maintain a beautiful home, produced delicious creations in the kitchen and was a voracious reader of books on tape and disk. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, parents James Cook and Louise Robertson Cook, sisters Helen Griffith and Margaret Rowley. She is survived by her sons, Steven (Vicki) Siegrist of Grand Ledge and William (Shirley) Siegrist of Clarkston, 5 grandchildren: Jennifer Churchill of Sonoma, CA, Aaron Churchill of South Bend, IN, Matthew Siegrist of Ferndale, MI; Erik (Sara) Siegrist of Asheville, NC; Rhandi (Eric) Nelson of Roswell, GA, and Kristin (Marco) Gonzales-Vega of Dallas, TX; 3 great-grandchildren: Abigail Siegrist, Lucas Nelson and Mara Gonzales, along with many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined to celebrate the lives of Florence and her husband William who died 11/18/12.
