Elaine Janet Rise Obituary
Elaine Janet Rise Passed away at home on September 7, 2013. We will miss her love of flowers, quilting, and garage sales; her presence in our lives as a loving wife, mother and friend; her generosity with others in thought and gift; and her optimistic, kind, considerate, and encouraging ways. Elaine is survived by her husband of 50 years, Jon Rise, her daughter, Kathryn Garrett Rise Humphrey, son-in-law, Reginald Humphrey, grandchildren, Landis and Saxon, and sisters Lois Shannon and Diane Chester. She is preceded in death by her mother, Velma Schutt Garrett and father, Harry Garrett. Elaine was born in Jackson, MI in 1942. She grew up in Pontiac and graduated from Pontiac Central High School. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a BBA in Accounting. In 1965, while living in Royal Oak, she was one of the first women professionals hired in the Finance Department at Ford Motor Company. In 1971, she and Jon moved to Lewiston where she managed Jon's law practice, until getting elected as the Supervisor and Assessor of Albert Township. Elaine later moved to St. Johns and worked as the Director of Finance for Delhi Charter Township until retiring in 2002. Through the years Elaine was an active member ofthe Lewiston Co-op Nursery School, Lewiston Curling Club, Paine-Gillam-Scott Museum, Clinton County Historical Society, and Peacemakers quilt group. She was also a Girl Scout leader and a volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28 at 3p.m. at the Paine-Gillam-Scott Museum, 106 Maple Street, St. Johns, MI 48879. Additional time for reflection and remembrance will be from 2p.m. to 3p.m. within the museum. It was Elaine's wish that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Paine-Gillam-Scott Museum (P.O.Box 174, St. Johns, MI 48879).
