Allan Rufe Allan Rufe, "PaPa", our beloved dad and grandfather died on November 23, 2013. Al was born on December 6, 1931. He was raised in Concord, Michigan by the late Clifford and Esther Rufe. Al served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. His secondary education began at Albion College, after transferring to Western Michigan University he obtained both his BS and his Master's in Education. Al was always a teacher and coach at heart. He taught mathematics at East Lansing Public Schools for 30 years and was an avid sports fan. He coached football, baseball and golf at ELHS and also served as athletic director. As a proud MSU football and basketball fan, he served the Michigan State Athletic Department as a volunteer statistician for over 40 years. This time frame encompassed 44 seasons, 13 Big Ten Championships, 4 National Championships and 14 Bowl games. In retirement Al stayed active playing golf with an East Lansing teachers group. His winter retreats to the Villages in Florida have been host to countless family memories that we will cherish forever. Al was preceded in death by his wife Sara (Tuttle) Rufe, sisters Shirley Frahm, Barb Kretchman, and son Nate Rufe. He is survived by his daughter, Marla Snyder, and step daughters Tama (Brian) Allen, Debbie (Al) Schefke, and Cinda (Alan) Kosloski Bergmann. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren Joel, Jena (Allen), A.J, Shelby (Schefke) and Katie, Jordon (Kosloski). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Lansing Schools Athletic Department, Royston Ridge Adult Foster Care, Grand Ledge, MI or the Leukemia society of US in memory of his son. A Memorial will be held on Saturday, November 30 at the Capital City Vineyard Church, visitation from 10:00 - 1:00 with the service following.
