Martin Keeney Obituary

Martin Glen Keeney

East Lansing

Martin "Glen" Keeney, 87 of East Lansing, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan with his son Brian, daughter Vivian and son-in-law Rick at his side.  He is now pain free and once again with the love of his life, Muriel, who preceded him in death in 2002.

Dad was born February 12, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska. He will tell you he had a great life, a great wife, great kids and a great family and is thankful for all that he received.  He was an accomplished, but humble man who taught computer science at MSU for over 30 years, spent two years serving his country in the Navy and was an avid MSU sports fan, especially of the hockey program.  He received his Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree from Iowa State and his Doctorate from MSU. Dad also had a dry, witty and sometimes wicked sense of humor that not all people got, but when you did it was always worth a hearty laugh. Throughout his life, following in his parent's footsteps, he made many untold contributions so that others less fortunate could share in his good fortune as he believed all people were deserving. His last selfless act was to donate his body to the MSU Willed Body Program.

He is survived by his children Brian and Vivian Keeney; son-in-law Rick Wurfel; brother and sister-in-law Donald & Merna Keeney and their children Karen Clark, Mark Keeney and Mike Keeney and their families of Memphis, TN; sister Frances Hentz of Prosperity, SC; brother-in-law Carroll Witter of Des Moines, IA; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight F. and Irma S. Keeney; wife, Muriel; brother-in-law, Thad Hentz; his in-laws; a sister-in-law; a brother-in-law and a nephew.

There will be no service.  Memorial contributions in dad's honor can be made to the Haven House of East Lansing, 121 Whitehills Drive, East Lansing, MI, 48823 or to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, 1210 West Saginaw Highway, Lansing, MI 48915.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan for the wonderful care, kindness and laughter you provided.

You were a great dad -- thank you! How about a hot cocoa?

Brian & Vivian,

For many years, we enjoyed sitting behind your family seats in Section U of Munn Ice Arena. Your Dad generally arrived early, and it was always a pleasure to visit with him - a Great Guy. Our blessings to your family.

I was privileged to know Glen and to serve with him as a faculty member in the MSU Computer Science Department. He had a gentle and friendly manner, and he had a great sense of humor. I send my condolence to you at this hour of loss.
