Morene Howell LUBBOCK-Visitation for Morene Howell will be on Sunday, Jan. 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home. Services for Morene (Clay) Howell, 91, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock with Charles Mickey and Mike Washburn officiating. Mrs. Howell died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, while at Sandy Lake Rehabilitation & Care Center in Coppell, Texas. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. She was born Feb. 3, 1921, in Wheeler County near Twitty, Texas, and finished high school at Kelton, Texas, in 1938. She attended West Texas State Teachers College in Canyon, and moved to Lubbock in 1940 to further her education at Draughon's Business College. She worked at Lubbock Army Airfield during WWII as a teletype operator and Air Corp supply supervisor from 1942 to 1945, and also worked as secretary at Kerr Construction Co. from 1954 to 1966. She was a member of the Broadway Church of Christ, and taught Bible class from 1949 to 1973. From 1966 to her retirement in 1978, she worked for the church in its front office as secretary, and also as secretary at the Texas Tech Bible Chair. She married Johnnie L. Howell of Shamrock, Texas, on Dec. 24, 1942, and continued to reside in Lubbock after his Air Force discharge in 1945. The couple celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2011. He passed away in June of 2012. She is survived by one sister, Maselle Craig of Lubbock; two daughters, D'Awn Gosdin and her husband, Dr. Gary Gosdin, and Diane Moss and her husband, Foy Moss, all of Irving; and one son, Johnnie L. Howell Jr. Buddy and his wife, Cindee, of Houston. Survivors also include nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her parents, three brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Pallbearers will be Johnnie L. Howell III John, Michael Howell, Christopher Howell, Geoffrey Gosdin, Mark Gosdin and Greg Parks. The family suggests any memorials, in lieu of flowers, be sent to the Children's Home of Lubbock, P.O. Box 2824, Lubbock, TX 79408.

Mo was my 2nd mom when i was in school and working in Lubbock. So kind, loving and giving and I still miss her! Love to you and Johnnie

I so wish I could be there to help in honoring my Mo- my 2nd mom. I know Mike and Charles will do an excellent job befitting of Mo's Christian life. Buddy, D'awn and Diane- you are in my prayers!

Morene and Johnny were so sweet to my parents, Preston & Anita Dunn, at Ventura. They enjoyed having their meals together every day and were special friends. My thoughts are with your family as you lose a second loved one in a short period of time.
