Stephen Ross Payne LUBBOCK-Services for Stephen Ross Payne, 88, of Lubbock will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at First Christian Church of Lubbock. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 8, at Sander's Funeral Home. Steve was born on Oct. 14, 1924, in Lubbock to Paul Lewis and Cora Payne. He passed peacefully on April 4, 2013. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the war, he attended Texas Tech University, where he received his Bachelor of Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. He enjoyed farming and commercial real estate. He married his wife of 58 years, Trois Muncy of Floydada, on Dec. 17, 1954. Steve was an active member of First Christian Church. He also enjoyed working with Troop 402 of the B.S.A. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Lewis and Cora Payne, Corinne Payne Wright, and P.L. Payne Jr. Survivors include his wife, Trois; son, Brad and his wife Kathy of Lubbock; daughter, Karen and her husband Lin Cave Wetterau of Austin; daughter, Karla and her husband John Chunn of McKinney; and seven grandchildren, Michael, Mason, Stephen, David, Kristen, Mackenzie and Erin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Corrine Payne Wright Regents Endowed Chair in Alzheimer's Disease at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, 3601 4th Street, Lubbock, TX 79430, (806)743-2907, or First Christian Church, 2323 Broadway Street, Lubbock, TX 79401.

Just learned if your Father's death this morning. I'm so sorry I didn't know sooner . Brad, you ministered to me and my parents for years as their elder and friend. My heart goes out to you and your family. We are never ready to lose a parent. Love you all.
