Benito Rios "Benny" Rivera

Benito Benny Rios Rivera LUBBOCK-Benito Benny Rios Rivera, 67, passed away Friday, July 25, 2014, at University Medical Center. Services for Mr. Rivera will be 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel at Broadway Funeral Directors with Deacon Benny Brito officiating. Burial will follow in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Broadway Funeral Directors. There will be a rosary held at 7 p.m. tonight at Broadway Funeral Directors. Benny was born Jan. 24, 1947, in Lubbock to Gumecindo and Ramona Rivera. He joined the U.S Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He married Sofia Jimenez in 1971 and was self-employed for most of his life before retiring. He enjoyed boxing, watching the Dallas Cowboys, going to Bingo and painting nature in his spare time. He is survived by his wife, Sofia Rivera of Lubbock; five sons, Benito Rivera Jr., Angelo Rivera, both of Lubbock, Ernest Rivera of Houston, Billy Joe Rivera and Ruben Rivera of Ft. Worth; five brothers, Gumencindo Chao Rivera, Tony Rivera, Roy Rivera, all of Lubbock, Richard Rivera of Abernathy, Manuel Rivera of Florence; five sisters, Cecilia Quintanilla, Francis Guzman, Dolores Cantu, Janie Guerra, Dora Flores, all of Lubbock; 20 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren, of whom he was really close to Daken Zane Rivera, Jessica Rivera and Kayla Camacho. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gilbert Rivera and Robert Rivera.
