Calvin Curtis "Butch" Shoumaker

Calvin Butch Curtis Shoumaker LUBBOCK-Calvin Cal Butch Curtis Shoumaker, 72, of Lubbock, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 12, 2014. Born in Inglewood, Calif., to Hazel and Curtis Shoumaker, he lived in many places in the world, but the past 32 years were spent in Lubbock. He proudly served his country for 21 years as a Security Police Officer in the United States Air Force with a retired rank of Tech Sergeant, and was employed for more than 20 years at Covenant Hospital in their security and parking departments. He had a great enthusiasm for fishing, movies and talking. His greatest joy was to spend countless hours fishing with many a tall tale and never eating the fish he caught. He loved old movies with John Wayne or the military, and could always tell you each actor's name. He had a much appreciated ability to talk to anyone about anything. No one was ever a stranger to him. He loved to debate anything and didn't care how others received his very strong opinions. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Shaw, Curtis Shoumaker, and his infant granddaughter, Faith Salli. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Nancy Shoumaker. Calvin had a vast amount of pride for his two children's many accomplishments in their academics and careers and was known to brag incessantly about them: Dr. Michele Salli, a family physician, and husband Greg, and James Shoumaker, a petroleum engineer. He is survived also by a much-loved and adored granddaughter, Ella Salli; his sister, Janet Bonds and husband Lee; his brother, Garry Shoumaker and wife Mary; his brother-in-law, Jack Givens; his nephew, John Givens and wife Karol; his niece, Kay Fowler and husband Bill; his niece, Carie Kawamara; his nephew, Jeff Bonds and wife Toni; as well as many great-nieces and nephews. Public viewing will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, in the Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered at
