Clarence Black Obituary

Clarence Ernest Black LITTLEFIELD- Clarence Ernest Black, 85, died Sunday, July 28, 2013, in Abilene, Texas. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Amherst, Texas, with Ronnie Hedges officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Amherst, Texas under the direction of Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield, Texas. Clarence was born on May 19, 1928, in Paducah, Texas to parents, Ernest Lamar and Bertha Lee (Vaughn) Black. The family moved to Amherst in 1934. After graduation from Amherst High School in 1945, Clarence joined the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. He married Tootsie (Clara Faye) Cowen on Dec. 20, 1947 in Amherst. They were married 41 years until her passing in 1989 in Vallecito Lake, Colo. Clarence enjoyed working in several different career fields through the years, but especially loved living and working in the mountains at Vallecito. He retired from the real estate profession in 1989. Clarence was an active member, deacon, and Sunday School teacher in the Baptist Church, serving many years both at the First Baptist Church of Amherst and the Vallecito Baptist Church in Colorado. In addition to his wife, Tootsie Black, he was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his two children, son, Larry and daughter-in-law, Patricia of Phoenix, Ariz., and daughter, Elaine and son-in-law, Stan Huckabee of Abilene, Texas; five grandchildren, Brittany Huckabee of New York, N.Y., Brent Huckabee of Lubbock, Texas, Austin and Tyler Black of Phoenix, Ariz., and Sarah Logan of Phoenix, Ariz.; one great-grandchild, Isaac Nobles of Lubbock; his sister, Mary Campbell of Amherst, Texas; his brother, Bill Black of Grand Junction, Colo.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
