Ethel Behner

Ethel B. Behner LUBBOCK- Ethel B. Behner completed her journey in this life on Friday, March 8, 2013. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 5, 1926 in Austin, Texas, and was 86 years old. Born Ethel Louise Brown, she was the only child of W. F. and Naomi Brown. She married Vernon L. Behner on June 17, 1946 in Austin, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1989. Ethel Behner worked beside her husband in his CPA firm for more than 30 years as office manager and client support. She and her family were active members at the Broadway Church of Christ. Ethel was responsible for the organization of the Teacher's Workroom, spending many hours organizing teaching supplies and making sure the supplies were ordered and available for Sunday school classes. In order to be involved in the life and activities of her three children, she and her husband chaperoned many youth mission trips while at Broadway. Later, they moved their membership to Greenlawn Church of Christ, where they maintained an active involvement in church fellowship. Believing that Christian education was important, she wanted her children to attend Lubbock Christian Schools, and made many sacrifices to ensure that they were enrolled there. She was one of the charter members of the Lubbock Christian Associates, and served as President, Vice-President, and multiple terms as Treasurer. She spent countless hours participating in the LCU Pie Booth at the South Plains Fair, Gift Fair, and many other support activities. Ethel was active in PTA at Lubbock Christian Schools, serving as room mother, and opening her home for her children's friends and classmates. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Kay and Ronnie Agnew, Martha and Clay Birdwell, and Bill and Sandra Behner; nine grandchildren, Lanisa and Scott Fitzgerald, Austin and Rhonda Agnew, Jared Agnew, Grant and Carlye Birdwell, Marcus Birdwell, Amanda and Brooks Hodges, Blake and Elaine Birdwell, Matt and Jessica Behner, and Becky Behner; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held today Sunday March 10, 2013 at Resthaven Funeral Home from 4 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Greenlawn Church of Christ with burial to follow in Resthaven Memorial Park.
