Maurice Steen

Maurice Steen LUBBOCK- Maurice Steen, 88, of Lubbock passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Maurice, known as Moe to his friends, was born April 12, 1924 in Floydada to the late Homer and Madeline (Potter) Steen. He graduated from Floydada High School and went on to attend West Texas State before earning a B. S. from the University of Texas. Moe attended pilot training in the Air Corp at Williams Field Arizona in 1944. He served as a Mosquito Pilot in Korea where he flew 100 missions, and thus began his long love affair with aviation. He flew scores of aircraft during his 60 year aviation career. Moe was a member of the First Christian Church in Lubbock, and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. He married Kay Sparks on July 18, 1948 in Floydada. She preceded him in death on February 23, 2012. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Brad Steen and wife Nancy of Wichita Falls; daughter, Lisa Steen of Lubbock; sister, Golden Nabors of Lubbock; twin brother, Phil Steen and wife Helen of Arvada, Colo.; grandson, Sam Steen and wife Bonnie of Pampa; and great-grandson, Jett. Private family interment will take place at the Floydada Cemetery. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Odyssey Hospice, 1717 Norfolk Avenue, 4th Floor, Lubbock, TX 79416.
