Minnie Dathard

Minnie Lou Jefferson Darthard LUBBOCK- Minnie Lou Jefferson Darthard, 91, of Lubbock passed away on April 5, 2013. Minnie was born on January 16, 1922 to the parentage of the late Hezekiah ad Phoebe Jefferson in DeBerry, Texas. She was one of nine children, which included three brothers and five sisters. Minnie met and married Julius Billy Darthard and relocated to Littlefield, Texas. Soon after, they settled in Lubbock. Minnie became a member of Faith First Baptist Church in 1969. Minnie held several positions at the church including Financial Secretary, Usher Board President, Women's Mission Secretary, reporter for the City-Wide Ushers, and President of the Lion's Club. Minnie was employed as a cook with Texas Tech University, and also worked for Hemphill Wells and American State Bank. After retiring from cooking, she became a foster grandparent at the Lubbock State School for several years. Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; her eight siblings; and her husband, Billy. Minnie leaves to cherish her memories nephews, Otis Jackson, Larry Darthard and Darrell Darthard; her niece, Sandra Green; a special friend, Martha Loggins; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends across the country. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank long-time friends, Gladys Henderson, JoAnn Portee and Hazel Saphire Montgomery; as well as the staff at Lubbock Manor Assisted Living; the staff and management at the Windmill Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility; and the many healthcare employees who assisted her. Special thanks to the Faith First Baptist Church family for all your prayers and support. Celebration of life services will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Faith First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held today, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary.
